21 Oct The New Zealand Male Choir comes to Vancouver
On September 29th 80 men and their wives descended on Vancouver from all parts of New Zealand to join the Vancouver Welsh Men’s choir in a series of concerts held in Vancouver and Victoria.
On their arrival and staying at the Holiday Inn in downtown Vancouver, they met their choir mates for an informal rehearsal before the key concert at the First United Wesley on Friday, October 2nd. This amazing organisation by Bud Phillips and his team generated excellent ticket sales with all the proceeds going to First United’s awesome work for the homeless in Vancouver. The church was filled to the brim as the New Zealand Male Choir and the Vancouver Welsh Men’s choir came together in magnificent song.
140 male voices lit up the church with old New Zealand and Welsh favourites like Pokarekare Ana, Wairua Tapu, Gwahoddiad and You raise me up. No microphones were used – just their voices filling the beautiful downtown church.
We were able to meet a lot of the choir prior to their concert at the Blarney Stone and everyone was having a good time discovering Vancouver, the restaurants and the scenery.
After the concert, they journeyed up to Whistler and over to Vancouver Island for concerts in Sidney and Victoria.
It was a pleasure to be involved in helping make this happen and we want to thank Anastasia and Bud Phillips and his team for all the work they put into the organisation.
